PROFILE
Michele A. Peters came to the practice of law in 1999 after a prior successful eleven year career in real estate brokerage. A graduate of New York Law School and Syracuse University, she was formerly an associate with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, NY working in their corporate restructuring / bankruptcy department. Ms. Peters went on to providing counsel to residential co-operative boards of directors; handled landlord-tenant matters; collections; general business law; discrimination suits; as well as real estate transactional matters. She worked as in-house counsel, Director of Sales and Project Development for Manhattan’s largest independently owned real estate firm prior to opening her own firm in 2005.

Ms. Peters' law practice focuses on real estate, business, and entertainment law. Sometimes the practice involving real estate has led to bankruptcy filings but bankruptcy is only used as a last resort option when other avenues have been explored and exhausted.  She is an advocate for mediation and arbitration.

Since 2006, Ms. Peters has been the site-selector for the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York finding homes to be acquired by the State for the Developmentally Disabled in New York City.

She is a New Jersey Court Appointed Mediator and a participant in the New Jersey State Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation program.  Supplementing her practice, Ms. Peters is a pro bono attorney working under the auspices of the New York City Bar Justice Center - Foreclosure Project; as well as a volunteer attorney working as a Small Claims Arbitrator for the New York City Civil Court.

In prior years, Ms. Peters has volunteered her legal services In New York with the CLARO (Civil Legal Advice and Resource Office) project of Fordham Law School working with the Legal Aid Society and Bronx Supreme Court assisting pro se defendants in consumer collection actions; and has worked as a volunteer attorney with the New Jersey State Bar's "Wills for Heroes" project.

While in law school, Ms. Peters interned for Judge Jane Solomon in New York's Supreme Court, and the Hon. Cornelius Blackshear in the S.D.N.Y. Bankruptcy Court. She is pleased to be a judge in New York Law School’s Annual Robert F. Wagner National Labor & Employment Law Moot Court Competition, the nation’s largest student-run moot court competition.

A member of the New York and New Jersey State Bar Associations as well as New York's City Bar, Ms. Peters is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey, as well as the States of New York and New Jersey.

Ms. Peters is a certified guardian and receiver recognized by the State of New York as well as a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.

Besides legal associations, Ms. Peters continues her active involvement with the real estate community. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Manhattan Association of Realtors (MANAR); is a current member of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) for which she served as co-chair of the Small Firms Committee; is a current member of REBNY's InterFirm Forum as well as REBNY's Economic Development Committee.  She is a continuing education instructor for local and state Boards of Realtors (as well as REBNY and PropertyShark University) and has been most recently in demand on the subject of short sales, foreclosures, and the advanced subject of distressed properties.
